(1) Harlotry, wine and new wine take away the understanding.

(2) It is base harlotry to seek either gain or offspring by promiscuous intercourse.

(3) But she did not forget her harlotry with the Egyptians who had lain with her and poured their lust on her from the time of her youth.

(4) I have given her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her harlotry.

(5) Their deeds will not allow them To return to their God. For a spirit of harlotry is within them, And they do not know the LORD.

(6) Their doings will not suffer them to return unto their God; for the spirit of harlotry is within them, and they know not the LORD.

(7) If this was not done, God Himself would bring His judgment of death upon those who would "commit harlotry " (20:5).

(8) In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing; Ephraim's harlotry is there, Israel has defiled itself.

(9) Also, I will have no compassion on her children, Because they are children of harlotry.
