Goneril Gon·e·ril /ˈɡɒnərɪl $ ˈɡɑː-/ one of King Lear's daughters in the play King Lear by William Shakespeare. She and her sister Regan pretend to love their father to make him give them his land, and then treat him so cruelly that he becomes mentally ill.
