1. Conclusion Primary areflexia and GCS are the best indexes that predict the prognosis of severe cerebral trauma in children, which is influenced mainly by the factor of cerebral swelling or edema.

2. Hypo- or areflexia, autonomic dysfunction and cranial nerve involvement is commonly associated.

3. It is usually fairly easy to recognise the patient who presents with a few days' history of progressive sensory symptoms, flaccid tetraparesis, and areflexia, perhaps with increasing bulbar weakness.
