1. These injuries are characterised by pubic diastasis, either at the symphysis or through sagittal ramal fractures.

2. Associated injuries may include sacroiliac joint diastasis and, less commonly, sacral fractures.

3. The abdominal examination should rule out diastasis recti, masses , ascites and organomegaly.
