1 At the hipline of the dress form, measure the distance from the side seam to the gore seam on both the front and back side panels.

2 Smooth along the hipline, keeping the grain straight, and pin at the hipline directly under the first flare point indicated in the waistline.

3 Making sure that the ease is maintained in the entire hip area, pin the side seam together above the hipline.

4 In order to achieve this balance, it is sometimes necessary to adjust the side seam of the back skirt above the hipline.

5 Pin all panels together on the gore seam grain lines from the hipline to hem (Figure4.27).

6 And on the muslin side panels, indicate this width centered on the hipline of each panel. From these points, draw the grain lines from the hipline to the hem (Figure4.26).
