Union Carbide Union Car·bide /ˌjuːnjən ˈkɑːbaɪd $ -ˈkɑːr-/ trademark a large US chemical company. In 1984, poisonous gases escaped from its factory in Bhopal, northern India, and over 2000 people died. Since then, many other people living in the area near the factory have developed serious health problems.
